SoTShot: A FAQ

What is SotShot?

The following is a rough guide to SOTShot - an opportunity for players to showcase their artistic talent in-game for the chance to win various prizes. This contest is held on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

Typically, SoTShot themes run over three weeks – a theme is announced on the Monday of the first week, a submission deadline will be set for the Wednesday of the third week and winners will be announced on the Friday of the third week. Entry periods may be extended to account for holidays.

In order to have the chance of winning, you can post a screenshot on Twitter/X with the #SotShot tag and mentioning @SeaOfThieves. Instagram users can tag their screenshots with #SotShot. Entries must be posted between the themes announcement and its deadline - images posted before or after the submission period will not be counted. When posting an entry, please ensure your account is not set to private, otherwise we won’t be able to find your entry.

How is SoTShot judged?

Platform-specific shortlists are created from all entries. An official panel then votes on the entries based on creativity, composition and a clear application of the stated theme. The SoTShots with the most votes are our winners.

What prizes are on offer:

Through successive wins, or taking part in winning shots, players can earn the following:

  • 1 win = Golden Hour Sails
  • 2 wins = Noteworthy Artist of the Sea Title
  • 3 wins = Accomplished Artist of the Sea Title
  • 5 wins = Renowned Artist of the Sea Title
  • 7 wins = Inspiring Artist of the Sea Title
  • 10 wins = Visionary Artist of the Sea Title

FAQ:

Can I crop my image?

  • You may crop an image, but please be aware that it must fit a 16:9, 1:1 or 3:4 frame. Any other size of crop will be unlikely to be shortlisted.

Can I edit my image beyond a crop?

  • No. If any tool is used other than Sea of Thieves’ own settings for any purpose beyond cropping an image, your entry will not be considered.

Can I use Sea of Thieves' own colourblind settings to change the look of my entry?

  • Yes!

How many pirates can feature in a SoTShot entry?

  • As many as you can fit in. With that said, a large number of pirates will not guarantee a win – it’s all about the quality of the photo and how appropriate it is to the theme.

How many times can I enter a theme?

  • As many times as you want!

Can I post the same screenshot for multiple themes?

  • Yes, but be aware that real people are looking at the entries – they’ll start to spot repeat entries.

Will you extend SoTShot to any other platforms?

  • We are always weighing up the capabilities of other platforms and the bandwidth our team has to support an additional method of entry.

Are any areas off-limits for #SoTShots?

  • No. You’re free to use any location found in Sea of Thieves to take your SoTShot!

Our hope is that even if you don’t win, you’ll have enjoyed partaking in some in-game photography, and made some fun memories.
